;e Hobart Institute of Welding
Technology (HIWT), Troy, Ohio, has
announced the establishment of two
new scholarships for its students. ;e
scholarships, in honor of HIWT President André A. Odermatt, are $5,000
each and will be awarded for the first
time in May 2014.
For more than 10 years, Odermatt has led the Hobart
Institute as president and chairman of the board. He has
a long history with welding, working with Oerlikon Welding Industries and Hobart Brothers Co., where he began
in 1964 until his retirement from there in 2001.
In addition to his work with the Institute, Odermatt
authored the book Welding: A Journey to Explore Its Past.
He directed the 2005 expansion of HIWT, established the
Hobart Gallery of Welding History
in 2010, and currently is providing
oversight for the 2013 construction
project that will add 52 welding
booths to the facility.

with the addition of a 0.250- by 60-
in. Loopco slitter. ;e slitter expands
the location’s maximum slitting capability from 0.135 in. to 0.250 in.
;e steel toll processer provides
rail, warehousing, slitting, cut-to-length, and trucking services from
the Lewisville facility and a northern
Indiana manufacturing location.
Penn Stainless Products
establishes partnership
with metals corrosion
consultant
Penn Stainless Products, Quakertown, Pa., a distributor and processor of stainless steel sheet, plate, bar,
structural, pipe, and tubular products, has announced a collaborative
partnership with “Dr. Metals,” Hira
Ahluwalia, PhD, a scientist, metal-lurgist, materials and corrosion consultant, and president of Material
Selection Resources Inc.
Ahluwalia’s collaboration will add
technical expertise and field experience for the company’s customers in
areas such as corrosion analysis, material selection, and testing. Author
of more than 20 published articles, he
has served as chairman of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers
and is a recipient of that organization’s Distinguished Service Award.
“Dr. Metals has lengthy experience
in dealing with corrosion and related
metallurgical topics for multiple industry segments,” said President Jim
Seward. “We are very excited to have
his considerable breadth of knowledge to support our customers.”
Ahluwalia will assist Penn Stainless and its customers with more
demanding specification requirements and technical processes. “
Selecting, specifying, and fabricating
corrosion-resistant alloys correctly
ensures long-term reliability and reduces the cost of corrosion,” he said.
