Dial tube loader
Hautau Tube Cutoff Systems has
developed a dial loader that can be
used to automate loading of tube shears
or saw cutoff machinery. It is designed
for high-production, continuous processing of round, square, rectangular,
hexagonal, and other shaped tubing.
The loader handles complete bundles of mill-length tubing. The bundles
are supported by four heavy-duty steel
arms. A shaft running along the center
of the loader has nylon rotary dials
positioned at the end of each arm.
The dial is machined to the shape
of each tube being run. So as the arms
lift and gravity feeds the tubing into
the shaped dial, each piece of tubing
is positively positioned for loading
into the cutoff machine.
In addition, the programmable dial
can orient the tubing for the optimal
cutoff angle. Square tubing would be
oriented at 45 degrees and rectangular
at about 30 degrees, for example.
Dials are of a split design to allow
simplified changing, if required. A set
of dials can accommodate up to 24 different sizes and shapes of tubing.

DOC, DPF assembly
production process
Hess Industries has developed a process line for the manufacture of diesel
oxidation catalysts (DOC) and diesel
particulate filter (DPF) assemblies.
The manufacturing process accommodates a variety of part designs,
including welded end cones, spun
ends, flange mounts, and integrated
components such as internal and
external heat shields. Part sizes with
substrates up to 10 in. in diameter are
typical, with larger sizes available for
commercial and off-road applications
Customer-defined processes have integrated substrate inspection and gauging, tube forming, spin forming, and
complete integrated cell assemblies.

Safety laser scanner
Sick offers the S300 safety laser scanner, suitable for applications in
which the hazardous area to be monitored is less than 6. 5 ft.
The scanner helps reduce downtime, damage, injuries, and accidents
in a variety of safety applications. Its
compact housing and low power
consumption make it a suitable
choice for providing oncoming fork
detection on AGVs and safeguarding
workers in the path of manned forklifts and transfer cars. The scanner
also serves as a noncontact alternative to safety mats.
The system has a 270-degree scan-
ning angle, which helps eliminate
gaps in the area being safeguarded.
The scanner also offers a selectable
resolution of 1.18, 1.57, 1.97, or 2. 76
in. and is Type 3 (IEC 61496-3),
SIL2 (IEC 61508).
