Metal-cored electrode
Select-Arc Inc.
has introduced a
metal-cored electrode designed to
weld cast irons
that demand in-
creased strength at relatively high
temperatures. Select 2216-C is suitable for joining cast irons to alloy and
carbon steels.
The electrode features a 41 percent
nickel-containing alloy with added
stabilizers and yields a uniformly
smooth bead with low spatter, good
penetration, and nice wash, states the
company. The weld metal not only
has high tensile strength in the
90,000-PSI range, but also provides
15 percent elongation, which makes
it tough and ductile.
While the electrode is used for
welding with high-strength nodular
or spherical graphite cast irons, it can
generally be used with all other cast
irons as well as dissimilar joints
between cast irons and steels.

Trimmable abrasive flap disk
Weiler Corp. has introduced the
Trimmable Tiger Disc™. The operator can trim away the backing of the
disk up to 3⁄ 8 in. from the original
diameter, exposing more flap abrasive and extending the life of the
disk.
The disk is flexible and conforma-
ble. By trimming the backing material away, the operator extends the flap
length to access hard-to-reach areas
such as right angles and irregular
shapes or to grind on-edge without
changing tools. In addition, the non-marking backing will not damage the
workpiece.
The disk removes stock aggressively while providing excellent finish,
the company reports.
There is no need to switch from a
Type 27 wheel to a resin fiber disk;
users can grind and finish in one step.

Larger Machines with Higher Capacities
Waterjet cutting system
Jet Edge Inc. offers the High Rail
Gantry precision waterjet cutting system, which can produce complex
parts out of almost any material.
The machine features a stable
overhead design that allows full
access to the work envelope and raises critical components out of the
process environment. Accuracy is
0.005 in. with a repeatability of 0.001
in. over the entire work envelope. It is
available in 2-ft. increments from 4 by
4 ft. to 24 by 14 ft. Custom sizes are
available, and the system can be
expanded in place.
The gantry’s mechanical components are protected by stainless steel
enclosures versus traditional bellows.
In addition, a filtered blower on each
enclosure introduces a constant positive air pressure that helps prevent a
negative pressure condition in the
enclosure system.
