National Reshoring Award in recognition of its success in bringing
manufacturing back to the U. S. The award, given by The Reshoring
Initiative and the Precision Metalforming Association, honors a
company that has effectively reshored products, parts, or tooling
made primarily by metal forming, fabricating, or machining.
Mitchell Metal Products, a fabricator offering progressive metal
stamping, metal forming, welding, joining, and finishing services,
used reshoring to complete more end products with less lead
time. In 2016 the company manufactured a cultivator handle subassembly product, increasing the production volume from 4,500
made overseas to 30,000 made in Wisconsin.
Initiative aims to increase
productivity in Wisconsin
Wisconsin Economic Development
Corp., Milwaukee 7, and Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership have
announced the launch of the Transformational Productivity Initiative, a
program designed to help small and
midsize manufacturers in Wisconsin improve their productivity.
The group is seeking five to 10 companies to participate for a two-year trial
period. Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership, several University of
Wisconsin programs, and a number of
manufacturers will develop diagnostic
and assessment tools to determine the
issues affecting productivity growth
and help formulate solutions.
Ebtec Corp. adds
three fiber laser systems
Agawam, Mass.-based Ebtec Corp., a
division of Edac Technologies LLC, has
acquired three LASERDYNE® fiber laser
machining systems for installation at its
newly expanded 83,500-sq.-ft. facility in
East Windsor, Conn. The machines will
join the company’s four existing fiber
laser systems to provide complex and
high-precision laser drilling, laser cutting, and laser welding in fabricated and
machined metallic components and assemblies.
One of the new machines, a LASERDYNE 795XL BeamDirector with dual
rotary tables and 6-axis processing capability, is outfitted with a 20-k W QCW
fiber laser. It adds large part capacity for
complex laser hole drilling at angles as
shallow as 10 degrees to the surface in
uncoated and thermal barrier-coated,
The other two new machines are LASERDYNE 430 BeamDirector systems.
The smaller-footprint systems can
drill cylindrical and shaped holes and
perform bevel cutting and welding on
a variety of materials, including high-temperature nickel alloys, aluminum,
copper, stainless steel, and titanium.
New fiber laser cutting machines are
running at Ebtec Corp., Agawam, Mass.
