workforce training machine
BTD Mfg. increases production capacity with new machines
The Manufacturing Skill Standards
Council (MSSC), Washington, D.C., and
technical training company Amatrol,
Jeffersonville, Ind., have launched the
MSSC CPT + Skill Boss training machine
for certified production technicians
(CPT). The portable machine can be
used by high schools, community colleges, and manufacturers to train people to excel in an advanced manufacturing environment.
The electronic press brakes feature offline programming,
full working length backgauge, user-friendly control screens,
quick tool change capabilities, and integrated safety system.
The fiber-optic sheet laser achieves precise, clean cuts
at industry-leading speeds, the company reports. The firm
plans to add more sheet lasers to the Lakeville facility, with
the layout designed to optimize flow and square footage.
The company offers a variety of metalworking services,
including metal fabrication, forming, welding, tool and die
work, machining, powder coating, prototyping, laser cut-

60-in. hemisphere pendants
for lighting project
Spinning, Minneapolis, has
spinning project for six 60-in. aluminum
hemispheres to be installed in a commercial building lobby and connecting
hallways. Acme produced temporary,
low-cost tooling for the small-lot run
and completed the entire project from
tooling build to delivery in three weeks.
Metalizing an 80-foot long x 6-foot deep girder.
Metalizing can provide corrosion protection
to steel for decades longer than paint alone.
The hemispheres were spun from
0.249-in.-thick 3003H14 aluminum and
spun to accomplish the required designed contour. The hemispheres were
hand-finished to a brushed surface.
Each completed product weighed 94
lbs. before installation.
We’re committed to leading the way with this alternative
coating process for structural steel and piping.
