Fiber generator laser machines
Mazak Optonics Corp.
showcased four fiber
generator laser machines, including the
launch of the Optiplex
Nexus 3015 fiber. The
2-D system is designed
to integrate intelligent setup and monitoring functions. It de-
livers many features normally available to only the highest-
technology machines, which simplify operation and reduce
operator dependency, but in an economical package, the
company reports.
The system offers a large side-access door available in a
manual pallet or automated two-pallet design. The 26,000-lb.
machine incorporates a helical rack-and-pinion positioning
system that features solid throughput and high accuracy, according to the manufacturer. It is designed to be used with the
manufacturer’s automated material handling systems.

Laser processing head
with real-time monitoring
Laser Mechanisms’ Fiber-WELD® processing head,
through the use of patented inline coherent imaging (ICI) technology, now
features real-time direct
penetration monitoring for
precise depth measurement of industrial laser processes.
Connecting to the processing head
through a dedicated port, a measurement beam with a unique wavelength
is coaxially combined with the primary
laser beam. The measurement beam is
reflected off the surface being worked
back to the sensor unit, where it is processed to measure the depth of penetration. Readings are accurate even
while the laser is operating, allowing
for real-time measurement and quality
control. Output can be fed back into the
control system for remediation and full
closed-loop operation.

Extension die grinders
Dynabrade Inc. has introduced a new
line of 0.4-HP extension die grinders.
The air tools allow for work within long
pipes, castings, and other places where
an extended reach is needed.
The straight-line air tools are available in either a front- or rear-exhaust
air motor and run at 25,000 RPM. They
are available in 3-in. and 6-in. extension
models. Each grinder features a safety-lock lever to prevent accidental tool
startup. Running as low as 72 dBA, the
grinder powers optional carbide burrs
and mounted points for deburring,
grinding, etching, and cleaning.
