TRUMPF to open Technology Center
in Chicago area
TRUMPF, a manufacturer of fabricating equipment and industrial lasers based in Farmington, Conn., has announced
plans to open a new facility in Hoffman Estates, Ill., a northwestern suburb of Chicago. The site will serve as the home
of the TRUMPF Technology Center and the center of excellence for Industry 4.0.
Scheduled to open in mid-2017, the 50,000-sq.-ft. facility
Sousa & DeMayo upgrades
will focus on integrating automation, material, and infor-
mation flow with machine tools. It will feature the com-
pany’s latest technologies and combine an automation
center with R&D, driving toward one-
piece-flow sheet metal production
under new ownership
Custom design and metal component
fabrication company Sousa & DeMayo
has announced its acquisition by mechanical engineer Greg Hunter. The
company employs 25 people in Attleboro Falls, Mass.
Hunter has more than 30 years of experience in product design, engineering management, and operations. The
company has purchased a 4-k W Amada laser and programming software,
a Solid Works® CAD system, and new
electrostatic paint spray guns.
Lakeside Steel and Machine
expanding operations in
Lakeside Steel and Machine Inc. is expanding its existing Anderson, S.C.,
operations with machine and equipment upgrades. The company is investing $2.5 million in the project, creating 13 new jobs over five years.
The firm offers heavy steel fabrication, critical engineering and prob-lem-solving, CNC machining, and
general welding and machining.
Pulverman has announced the addition of 25,000 sq. ft. to its metal
fabricating facility in Dallas, Pa. The

Ascent Aerospace expands
Ascent Aerospace has added 42,000
sq. ft. of office and manufacturing
space to its facility in Macomb Township, Mich. The site allows co-location
of the program management, systems
engineering, aftermarket support,
and global supply chain resources required to produce integrated assembly systems for aerostructures.
Manufacturing space is shared with
an adjacent Ascent facility, Global
Tooling Systems, for a combined
200,000 sq. ft. A 40,000-sq.-ft. high-bay space supports the manufacture
and testing of large automated assembly lines. The remaining manufacturing space is used for production
of assembly fixtures, trim and drill fixtures, and work platforms.
