Band saw technology
designed for high-
Simonds® Intl. has announced the launch
of Sine Wave® oscillating band saw technology, designed for processors of aerospace
alloys and other work-hardening applications. It uses a rocking motion that forces
each tooth of the band saw blade to penetrate the work. The blade grows in width, creating a self-feeding action that delivers faster cut times, the company states.
The blade cuts a thin kerf path to minimize material waste and consumes a fraction
of the electricity of abrasive wheels, the company states. It does not create high-heat
conditions, eliminating the operation of trimming the face pieces after the initial cut.
The blade is available in carbide or bimetal. Cut chips can be immediately recycled,
as there is no mixing of abrasive particles.

Reflective optics help tame thermal
focus shift during high-power laser welding
Laser Mechanisms has developed a line of parabolic mirror-based laser processing heads that
use reflective, direct-cooled copper optics to
nearly eliminate the thermal focus shift that can
occur with high-power lasers. They also shorten
the time required for the system to come into
thermal equilibrium from up to 250 seconds to
The units can be used at powers up to 30 k W.
The manufacturer provides all of the specific
beam-delivery components needed to design
and work with reflective systems, such as mounts,
adjustments, interlocks, CCTV viewing, and custom designs.

Torch height control automatically
adjusts arc voltage
The new ArcGlide® THC torch height control is available from Hypertherm. It is engineered to continuously sample and automatically adjust the arc voltage. This helps
ensure the torch is always the right distance from the plate so consumables reach their
intended life expectancy.
Productivity advances are achieved through a reduction in cut-to-cut cycle time.
The prepared part program and the torch height control work together to help to minimize unnecessary motion between cuts, while proprietary Rapid Ignition™ technology
allows the torch to fire as soon as it is in position, reducing cut-to-cut cycle time.
Color-coded and keyed cables connect the control to the lifter, plasma power supply, and CNC, while a simplified user interface and large controls help reduce operator
confusion or frustration. The outer shell and enclosed slide mechanics keep dust and
metal debris from getting inside. A pierce guard keeps molten metal from splattering
back onto the control.
