to move to Wyoming
Midwestern Pipeline Co., a pipeline service
business in California, has announced it
will open a facility in Cheyenne, Wyo. The
company plans to construct a plant on a
55-acre site and hire up to 50 workers.
Midwestern Pipeline specializes in the
double joint welding of steel pipe, the application of anticorrosion coatings, and
other services for the gas and oil industry.
The company plans to relocate its headquarters to Cheyenne three to four years
after opening the new facility.
Taifeng Steel installs welding machine
from EFD Induction
Chinese steelmaker Taifeng Steel has purchased a Weldac induction welder from EFD Induction for its new mill. The system is
used to weld 219 by 10 tubes for the automotive industry.
The Weldac 600 is a single-cabinet converter that delivers a
constant power factor of 0.95 at all power levels. Automatic load
matching helps ensure full output power across a range of tube
sizes. The system uses short circuit-resistant IGBT transistors for
increased uptime and output.
Brown-Strauss Steel acquires B-S Steel
Brown-Strauss Steel, a distributor of wide-flange beams and
structural steel tubing, has announced plans to acquire the assets of B-S Steel Inc. of Kansas, based in Kansas City. The distributor has seven locations and more than 100,000 tons of
inventory.
Brown-Strauss Steel was founded in Kansas City in 1905. It
moved its corporate headquarters to Denver in 1983, the same
year B-S Steel was founded. Chris Gunderson has become the
new general manager at the Kansas City facility.

Cargill to acquire Robinson’s
RPS Steel division
Cargill has announced that it will purchase Robinson Steel’s RPS® Steel division,
acquiring its cold-reduction lines in East
Chicago, Ind., and Granite City, Ill. Cargill
will take 100 percent ownership of Cargill
Robinson LLC, a joint venture formed by
Cargill and Robinson in 2007. The transaction was expected to be complete in
early February.
Robinson Steel will continue as an independent owner and operator of its RPS
Laser division, with Cargill as its exclusive
supplier of RPS sheet and plate products.
Cargill currently operates seven flat-rolled steel service centers, focusing on
hot-rolled-band, pickled-and-oiled, cold-rolled, and tin mill products. Robinson
Steel Co. Inc. currently operates steel and
laser cutting facilities in Indiana, Illinois,
Iowa, Missouri, and Alabama.

Iowa Mold Tooling opens
new facility for welding
Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. has opened a
manufacturing facility in McIntire, Iowa,
to handle its increased welding activities.
The plant opening created about 40
welding jobs, and the company also has
hired more welders at its main facility in
Garner, Iowa.
Business at IMT increased significantly
in 2009, primarily because of a partnership
between IMT and its parent company,
Oshkosh Corp., which supports the military’s need for new equipment overseas.
IMT has been designing and manufacturing lifting equipment for military applications since 2008.

celebrated its 30th anniversary. Established in 1979 by Bruce and June
Beauchesne, the company is owned
and operated today by Gregory Sexton,
president and CEO.
